<p>Maria Fleseriu, MD graduated summa cum laude from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Timisoara, Romania and completed her residency training in internal medicine, as well as an endocrinology fellowship with a focus in pituitary disorders in Romania.</p>
<p>Subsequently, she completed an additional internal medicine residency at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio and an endocrinology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio.</p>
<p>Active in clinical research since the late 1980s, Dr. Fleseriu&#8217;s research interests include pathogenesis, diagnosis and therapy of pituitary tumors, and panhypopituitarism. Dr. Fleseriu has published extensively and has co-authored several book chapters detailing pituitary and thyroid pathology. She is board certified in internal medicine and endocrinology, is Assistant Professor of Endocrinology and Neurosurgery at Oregon Health &amp; Science University, and serves as Director of OHSU Northwest Pituitary Center</p>

<p>Dr. Lewis Blevins is Professor of Clinical Medicine and Clinical Neurological Surgery Medical Director, California Center for Pituitary Disorders at University of Califormia, San Francisco (UCSF)</p>
<p>Dr. Blevins&#8217; main clinical interests are in the evaluation and management of patients with various disorders of the pituitary gland and hypothalamus. He has particular expertise with regards to Cushing&#8217;s syndrome and has edited a book on the subject. He also has extensive experience in treating patients with acromegaly, prolactinoma&#8217;s, other pituitary tumors, diabetes insipidus, and hypopituitarism. He has extensive experience in the management of patients with growth hormone deficiency. Dr. Blevins is medical director of the California Center for Pituitary Disorders at UCSF.</p>
<p>His current research interests involve diagnostic testing in patients with hypercortisolism. He is currently evaluating new ways to test for the presence of Cushing&#8217;s syndrome. He is also interested in clinical predictors of surgical and medical success with regards to the management of patients with different types of pituitary tumors. Some of this work involves collaboration with neuropathologists at UCSF. Dr. Blevins is also involved with industry sponsored trials to evaluate new pharmacologic therapies for patients with pituitary tumors.</p>

<p>Indications<br />
SOMATULINE DEPOT is indicated for the long term treatment of individuals with acromegaly when the circulating levels of Growth Hormone (GH) and/or Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1) remain abnormal after surgery and/or radiotherapy, or in patients who otherwise require medical treatment. The goal of treatment in acromegaly is to reduce GH and IGF-1 levels and where possible to normalise these values.</p>
<p>SOMATULINE DEPOT is indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with acromegaly.</p>
<p>SOMATULINE DEPOT is also indicated for the treatment of symptoms associated with carcinoid tumours.</p>
